Ambipolar Diffusion and Far-Infrared Polarization from the Galactic Circumnuclear Disk

چکیده
We describe an implicit prediction of the accretion disk models constructed by Wardle and Königl (1990) for the circumnuclear disk (CND) of gas and dust near the Galactic center: supersonic ambipolar diffusion, an essential dynamical ingredient of the Wardle-Königl disks, will cause the alignment of dust grains due to a process described by Roberge, Hanany, & Messinger (1995). We calculate synthetic maps of the polarized thermal emission which would be caused by ambipolar alignment in the preferred Wardle-Königl model. Our maps are in reasonable agreement with 100μm polarimetry of the CND if we assume that the grains have shapes similar to those of grains in nearby molecular clouds and that the CND contains a disordered magnetic field in energy equipartition with its ordered field. Your thesaurus codes are: missing; you have not inserted them ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS The relationship between star formation rates and mid-infrared emission in galactic disks Abstract. The Hα and mid-infrared mean disk surface brightnesses are compared in a sample of nearby spirals observed by ISOCAM. This shows that, in spiral disks, dust emission at 7 and 15 µm provides a reasonable star ...

Nonthermal radio emission in the galactic center reveals a number of vertical structures across the galactic plane, which are attributed to poloidal magnetic field and/or energetic outflow. Thermal radio emission comprises star forming regions distributed in a thin, dense thermal gas disk. The thermal region is associated with dense molecular gas disk, in which the majority of gas is concentrat...

We report high-resolution imaging of the ultraluminous infrared galaxy Arp 220 at 1.1, 1.6, and 2.22 mm with the Near-Infrared Camera and Multiobject Spectrometer on the Hubble Space Telescope. The diffraction-limited images at 00.1–00.2 resolution clearly resolve both nuclei of the merging galaxy system and reveal for the first time a number of luminous star clusters in the circumnuclear envel...
متن کاملA cloudy model for the Circumnuclear Disk in the Galactic Centre
We present a first attempt to construct an analytic model for a clumped gas and dust disk and apply it to the Galactic Centre. The clumps are described as isothermal spheres partially ionized by the external UV radiation field. The disk structure formed by the clouds is described as a quasi standard continuous accretion disk using adequately averaged parameters of the discrete cloud model. The ...

Far-infrared flux densities are newly extracted from the IRAS database for the RSA and CfA complete samples of Seyfert galaxies. These data are used to classify the Seyfert galaxies into those where the far-infrared continuum emission is dominated by the active galactic nucleus (AGN), circumnuclear starburst, or host galaxy. While AGN-dominant objects consist of comparable numbers of Seyfert 1 ...
